Ohana Climate Committee
MVMS Student Led - Student Run
What is it?
The Marina Student Ohana Climate Committee is a group of students working to improve the "feel" of Marina's culture and climate. Events, programs, etc. are driven by national awareness campaigns for the most part. There is an 8th grade student governing board who keep all the records as part of their leadership service learning . At the sixth and seventh grade levels there are several students in leadership rolls making sure every grade level is fully informed and participated in the various events. OCC consists of three squads Be Ohana (events, members from all grade levels), Peer Teaching (8th grade volunteers and WEB Leaders who go into classrooms to deliver various lessons, eighth grade members only) and Maluhia Ho’oponopono (peer to peer conflict resolution, all grade levels).
WhoThe OCC program began the year after Club Live dissolved, with participation by invitation only and 10-15 students per grade level. Today as OCC continues to grow, membership is by application for those who want to make a difference while learning leadership and communication skills.

WhenAlmost every meeting and event happens during grade level lunches. By the 20-21 school year, OCC hopes to have triennial general meeting/social events. The event that is required and occurs after school is Family Fright Fest one Friday in October. Membership in OCC does not interfere with Leadership, ASB, or any other elective.

ProjectsThe OCC plans such events as Red Ribbon Week, Take Down Tobacco Day (formerly Kick Butts Day), Mix It Up Lunch Day, and more. Watch emails for details and surveys. The annual Family Fright Fest is the single major fundraising event for the group. It was born from a collaborative effort between the former Club Live and ASB who does the haunted house as the feature attraction in addition to games, food , trick or treating and more all planned and manned by OCC members.
